Create ZIP File

About the Create ZIP Tool

Compress files and entire folders into a single ZIP file. Choose Store (no compression, fastest), Fast, or Best (smallest file), keep or flatten the folder structure, and optionally protect the ZIP with an AES-256 password. Privacy note: files never leave your device. Compression runs in background workers inside your browser, so nothing is uploaded and the page stays responsive while it works.

This tool works in your browser: the files and text you use are processed on your device and are not uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Drop files or folders onto the page, or use “Add files” / “Add folder”.
  2. Check the file list and total size; remove anything you don’t need.
  3. Pick a compression level and, if you like, a password.
  4. Name the ZIP and press “Create ZIP”.
  5. Download the finished ZIP (or Share it on mobile).

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your files are read and compressed locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

Which compression level should I use?

“Fast” is a good default. “Best” makes text, documents and code noticeably smaller but takes longer. Photos, videos and existing archives are already compressed, so “Store” is fastest for them and the size barely changes.

Does it keep my folder structure?

Yes. Folders you add or drag in are stored with their sub-folders. Untick “Keep folder structure” to put every file at the top level instead (duplicate names are renamed automatically).

Can I cancel a large ZIP?

Yes. A progress bar shows how much has been compressed, and the Cancel button stops the job immediately without saving a partial file.

Will the ZIP open on Windows and macOS?

Unencrypted ZIPs open everywhere, including the built-in Windows and macOS tools. Password-protected (AES-256) ZIPs need 7-Zip, WinRAR, WinZip, Keka, The Unarchiver or this site.
