Extract RAR Files

About the RAR Extractor

Open RAR archives (RAR v4 and RAR v5) without installing WinRAR. Browse and search the contents, preview images, text and PDFs, and extract all or selected files — or repack them as a ZIP. Privacy note: files never leave your device. RAR support comes from libarchive compiled to WebAssembly, which runs in a background worker in your browser; it downloads once (about 0.5 MB compressed) the first time you open a RAR.

This tool works in your browser: the files and text you use are processed on your device and are not uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Drop a .rar file onto the page, or tap “Choose RAR file”.
  2. Wait a moment while the archive engine loads and reads the file list.
  3. Search or browse the tree and tap a file to preview it.
  4. Select the files you want and extract them to a folder, download them, or download them as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Are my RAR files uploaded?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser — your files never leave your device.

Does it support password-protected RAR files?

Not yet. The libarchive engine used here can’t decrypt encrypted RAR archives, so you’ll see a clear message if a RAR is password-protected. Encrypted ZIPs are fully supported in the Unzip tool.

What about multi-part RARs (.part1.rar, .r00)?

Split archives aren’t supported — the tool opens one file at a time. Join or extract multi-volume sets with desktop software.

Is there a size limit?

The whole RAR is loaded into memory to decompress it, so the practical limit depends on your device — a few hundred megabytes is comfortable on most computers. Very large archives work better in desktop software.

Can I convert a RAR to ZIP?

Yes — use the RAR to ZIP converter, or select files here and choose “Download as ZIP”.
