Gold Price Calculator

About the Gold Price Calculator

Work out what a piece of gold, silver, platinum or palladium is actually worth. Enter the weight in any common unit — grams, troy ounces, pennyweight, tola, tael or baht — choose the karat purity, and the calculator prices the pure metal content at the live spot rate in your currency. Spot prices come from a free, open exchange-rate feed and update as the market moves.

This tool loads current rates from free public data services, so it needs an internet connection. The amounts you type are used in your browser only.

How to use it

  1. Pick the metal and the currency you want the value in.
  2. Leave the spot price on “Live”, or type your own to override it.
  3. Enter the weight and choose its unit.
  4. Select the karat purity stamped on the item.
  5. Read the total value, the value per gram, and the pure metal content.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my jewellery worth less than the calculator says?

The figure shown is the intrinsic value of the pure metal content only. A buyer also deducts making charges, a dealer premium or spread, refining costs, and any local tax or duty. Treat the result as a ceiling for scrap value, not an offer price.

What is a troy ounce, and why not a normal ounce?

Bullion is quoted per troy ounce, which is 31.1034768 grams. The everyday (avoirdupois) ounce used for food is 28.349523125 grams. A troy ounce is about 10% heavier, so mixing them up overstates a holding by roughly 10%. Both units are offered here, labelled clearly.

How does karat purity affect the value?

24K is defined as pure, so the pure-metal fraction is simply karat ÷ 24. That makes 22K about 91.67% gold and 18K exactly 75%. The calculator multiplies the weight by that fraction before pricing it, which is why 10 g of 18K is worth three-quarters of 10 g of 24K.

What does the fineness number (999, 916, 750) mean?

Fineness is purity in parts per thousand — the same thing as karat, expressed differently. 999 is 24K, 916 is 22K, 750 is 18K. Many items are stamped with the fineness rather than the karat.

How many grams is one tola?

A tola is standardised as 3/8 of a troy ounce, which is 11.6638038 grams. The calculator uses this value. Local markets occasionally round it to 11.66 g or 11.7 g.

Is the spot price live and can I rely on it?

The price refreshes from an open rates feed each time the tool loads, and the rate date is shown beneath the result. It is indicative, not a dealing price — there is no bid/ask spread and it may lag the market. Do not settle a transaction on it.

Does my weight or price data leave my device?

No. The only network request is a public, read-only fetch of exchange rates. Everything you type stays in your browser and nothing is uploaded or stored.
