Historical Exchange Rates

About the Historical Rate Auditor

Look up what a currency, cryptocurrency or precious metal was worth on past dates and compare it with today. Pick a start and end date, add the assets you want, and see the change as tables and charts. Results can be exported to CSV, Excel or PDF.

This tool loads current rates from free public data services, so it needs an internet connection. The amounts you type are used in your browser only.

How to use it

  1. Choose an asset class (currency, cryptocurrency or precious metal) and pick the symbols you want to compare.
  2. Set a start date and an end date for the period you are interested in.
  3. Load the data to see the rate on each date, the change across the period and the trend charts.
  4. Export the table as CSV, Excel or PDF if you need a copy.

Frequently asked questions

How far back does the rate history go?

Coverage depends on the public data source, which for major pairs typically spans several years of daily rates. Very old or exotic pair data may be unavailable.

Which rate applies for accounting purposes?

Jurisdictions differ: some require the central-bank reference rate on the transaction date, others allow a monthly average. This tool gives you the historical mid-market rate; confirm the required source with your accountant.

Why do different sources show slightly different historical rates?

There is no single official global exchange rate — each source snapshots the market at a different time of day and aggregates different feeds. Differences are normally a fraction of a percent.
