WHOIS Lookup

About the WHOIS Lookup

Find out who a domain is registered with, when it was registered, when it expires, which nameservers it uses and what locks protect it. Look up an IP address to see which organisation the network block is assigned to and where to report abuse. Data comes live from the official registries using RDAP, the standardised JSON successor to WHOIS used by Verisign, ARIN, RIPE, Nominet and most other registries.

To answer, this tool sends the domain or IP address you look up to public lookup services, so it needs an internet connection.

How to use it

  1. Enter a domain (subdomains and URLs are trimmed automatically) or an IP address.
  2. Review registration and expiry dates, the registrar, nameservers and status flags.
  3. Use the links to see the domain’s DNS records or locate an IP address.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I see the domain owner’s name and email?

Since GDPR (2018), registries and registrars redact personal contact details from public registration data. You can usually contact the owner through the registrar’s relay form or abuse contact instead.

What is RDAP and how is it different from WHOIS?

RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the modern replacement for WHOIS. It returns structured data over HTTPS, supports internationalised names and is now required for all generic top-level domains.

What does “client transfer prohibited” mean?

It is a registrar lock that stops the domain being transferred to another registrar without the owner first unlocking it. It is normal and recommended — the tool explains every status flag in plain English.

Why are there no dates for some country domains?

A few country-code registries (for example .de and .pk) do not publish data through RDAP. The tool then shows whether the domain is active in DNS and its nameservers; check the country registry’s website for full details.

Does “not found” mean the domain is available?

Usually, yes — the registry has no record of it. Some premium or reserved names still can’t be registered, so confirm with a registrar before planning around it.
