Image to Text (OCR)

About the Image-to-Text (OCR) Tool

Extract text from an image or screenshot using on-device optical character recognition (OCR). It recognises 17 languages — including English, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese and more — and lets you copy the extracted text with one click. The recognition runs in your browser, so your images aren’t uploaded to a server.

Your image is read in your browser and is not uploaded. The text-recognition engine is downloaded from a public CDN when you first use the tool.

How to use it

  1. Drop or select an image containing text (PNG or JPG).
  2. Choose the document language for best accuracy.
  3. Start extraction, then copy the recognised text.

Frequently asked questions

Which languages are supported?

Seventeen, including English, Arabic, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Hindi, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Turkish, Polish, Dutch, Swedish and Norwegian. Selecting the correct language improves accuracy.

How can I get the most accurate results?

Use a clear, high-contrast, well-lit image where the text is straight and in focus. Blurry, skewed or low-resolution images reduce accuracy.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The OCR engine runs in your browser (its core is loaded from a CDN the first time), and your image is processed locally rather than sent to a server.
